"If you can't feed a hundred people, then just feed one." -Mother Teresa
This kind of quote fuels the members of The Sampaloc Manila
Royal Eagles Club or SMREC, who shares common ideals, passion and aspiration;
that is to provide significant time to be of service to the community, to give
what they can to help those who are in need.
One Saturday morning, October 22, 2022, members of the
Sampaloc Manila Royal Eagles Club or SMREC, along with Club’s Aspirants and
volunteers gathered within the vicinity of Sto. Tomas Street corner Blumentritt
Extension in Sampaloc, Manila and divided themselves into two groups to facilitate
both the Clean-Up Drive and the Feeding Program within two Barangays. On this
community service, the recipient was the residents of Barangay 530 and 531 of
Sampaloc Manila.
Community service by definition is unpaid work performed by
a person or group of people for the benefit and betterment of their community
without any form of compensation.
Well, for The Sampaloc Manila Royal Eagles Club, we are all
compensated by fulfillment. A feeling of happiness and satisfaction, a feeling
of contentment because we have accomplished something far beyond our own goals
and agenda.
The members of the Sampaloc Manila Royal Eagles Club started the Clean-Up Drive at the intersection of Sto. Tomas and Josefina Street. The first group swept the area from Josefina I stretching to EspaƱa Boulevard while the second group, equipped with a broom stick and a dust pan, swept the adjacent streets from Josefina Street to Josefina II. While soaked in our own sweat as the Sun is showing its greatness, we all felt the satisfaction and fulfillment, the eagerness to do this all again… and again.
The Club have prepared a little something for the children, the elderlies and of course, the less fortunate people in the community.
A little something to eat packed in a small styro really
goes a long way. You can see the smile from the Children’s faces, the sigh of
relief from the Elderlies feeling that somehow, they can survive the day, or at
least survive the hunger of the morning.
If you share the same passion, the same goal and the flame to help others, you can join us and together, we can build a better society, better community and better version of ourselves.
